Congratulations to Alana Brigdale who was awarded the 2024 FRS Memorial Scholarship during the Teagasc Ag Colleges Challenge Day on Wednesday 14th February. Alana is a student at Mountbellew Agricultural College who was 1 of 5 candidates in the running for the FRS Award. She will now go on to take up a 3-month internship with FRS to gain invaluable work experience.
She gave a very insightful presentation on the topic of “Leadership & Biodiversity” using examples from her own home farm and we commend her excellent work.
Each candidate that presented made the panel’s decision very difficult. The panel comprised of; Anne-Marie Butler, Head of Education, Teagasc, Colette McInerney, Head of Operations, FRS Farm Relief Services and Elaine Holohan, President, Macra na Feirme.
Colette McInerney, Head of Operations at FRS Farm Relief said: “A wonderful morning in Kildalton College at the Teagasc Agricultural Competitions day. The FRS Memorial scholarship presentation competition did not disappoint, I was really impressed with the quality and content and the obvious hard work that went into the preparations, a great testament to students and their lecturers. It was interesting and great to see participants that were not from traditional farming background taking part and who are now considering farming as career. The title of the project was given to the students in advance by Teagasc, this year it was “Leadership and Biodiversity” and I certainly left better informed with a good sense that the new emerging generation of student farmers I met have this well in hand.”
Finally, we’d like to thank each student for their contribution. Special thanks also to Teagasc Kildalton College for hosting the event and to all the students that took part.
