About the Farm
Our client is a progressive, spring-calving 200 cow dairy operation focused on efficient grass-based milk production, high animal welfare standards, and strong herd performance. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Dairy Farm Operative to join our team and play a key role in the day-to-day management of the herd.
Key Responsibilities
- Milking & Herd Management
- Milking 200 cows in a safe, calm, and efficient manner
- Monitoring milk quality and cow health
- Identifying and reporting signs of mastitis, lameness, or illness
- Maintaining a clean and hygienic milking environment
- Calving & Calf Rearing
- Assisting with spring calving operations
- Monitoring cows pre- and post-calving
- Newborn calf care, including feeding colostrum and tagging
- Calf rearing, feeding, health checks, and record keeping
- Maintaining clean and well-bedded calf housing
- Machinery & Yard Work
- Operating farm machinery safely and competently
- Slurry spreading in accordance with best practice and regulations
- Tractor work (feeding, bedding, scraping, topping, etc.)
- General farm maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment
Grassland & Farm Duties
- Paddock setup and fence maintenance
- Assisting with breeding management during mating season
- Routine yard tasks and maintaining high farm standards
Requirements
- Previous dairy farm experience essential
- Competent and confident milker
- Experience with calving and calf rearing
- Ability to operate tractors and machinery, including slurry spreading
- Good stockmanship and strong attention to animal welfare
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
- Full driver’s license preferred
