Members Benefit Scheme (MBS)

Supporting Farmers When They Need It Most

Your membership is designed to support your labour needs when you cannot work your farm due to sickness or accident.

The Member Benefit Scheme ensures that your farm stays operational while you focus on recovery. It’s practical support when and where it matters.

“If you’re farming on your own without employees, I’d absolutely recommend the MBS. You need a backup plan, because farming doesn’t stop and FRS has the people and the skills to step in when you need them most.”

What our MBS Customers Say

Eoin Hanley, Co. Tipperary
Dairy farmer milking 100 cows and MBS member.

“When I took over the farm in 2015, I continued on with the FRS Member Benefit Scheme (MBS) straight away. It just made sense—having backup cover if something ever went wrong gave me peace of mind. It renews automatically every year, so I never gave it much more thought… until I needed it.

Last year, I had a bad accident while dosing bulls in the crush. I broke my wrist—not a clean break either. I knew I was in trouble. I couldn’t milk or even roll up a reel of wire. But I also knew I had to let it heal properly or it’d cause problems down the line.

That’s when I rang my local FRS manager, Niall Dervan. The whole thing was sorted easily. No hassle, no big drama. A local FRS operator, Pat, who actually knew the farm already, came in and took over the day-to-day jobs. Milkings, feeding calves, moving wire etc. He kept everything ticking over.

Pat’s a skilled operator, and I had total trust in him to do things right. That’s a massive help when you’re lying up injured, worrying about the place. Knowing I had FRS behind me gave me huge comfort.
I’d 100% recommend the MBS to any farmer. It gives you real peace of mind, and you know FRS have the skillset to keep things going when you can’t.”

Aoife Ladd – Co. Cork
Dairy farmer milking 70 cows, MBS member

“Growing up, my father always used FRS Farm Services when extra help was needed, so it was a natural step for me to continue using them when he stepped back from the milking. I started relying on relief milking more to give myself breaks, and I also signed up for the Member Benefit Scheme (MBS) for peace of mind. You hope you’ll never need it—but it’s important to have a plan if something ever does go wrong.

Unfortunately, in May 2022, I broke my foot in two places. I was out of action until September. Thankfully, FRS already knew my farm, so when I contacted my local manager Graham, he got everything sorted quickly. No hassle, no panic. He coordinated the operators and made sure the work was covered.

Most importantly for me, the cows were milked everyday, but the operators helped with TB testing, moving animals etc. Graham was on hand to help with every step including the paperwork, making the whole process really straightforward. Most of the work was shared between two regular operators, and I was happy with their skills. Knowing my animals were being taken care of properly gave me real peace of mind.

The MBS really proved its value during that time. I didn’t have to ring around trying to find people, and there were no multiple payments—just one at the end. Even when I returned to work, it had to be phased, and FRS supported that too.

If you’re farming on your own without employees, I’d absolutely recommend the MBS. You need a backup plan, because farming doesn’t stop—and FRS has the people and the skills to step in when you need them most.”

“Having been diagnosed with cancer in November 2023, I was facing into 6 sessions of chemotherapy in Spring 2024 and the inability to work a busy beef and sheep farm.
The FRS and their Members Benefit Scheme was invaluable to me. It was made very easy to employ and pay for most of the wages of a worker on the farm for those few months. I had paid into it for years hoping never to have to use it but I was very glad I had it when I needed it.”
